Logo
I decided that I wanted to make a logo for the Mystic Grill which is a fictional restaurant from the American Television series, The Vampire Diaries. First of all I had to vectorise the image in order to get the font.
After soon deciding this was much to dull and basic, I changed the outer circle to a lighter blue to make it a little bit more eye catching and decided to add an image to it as well.
I vectorised the image of a burger into black and white and played around with composition within the circle to try and see which layout worked best.
After much consideration, I decided that the text didn't work going over the top of the image so I made a slight curved banner to accommodate the text.
After deciding this logo was not up to scratch and a bit dreary, I added colour, and used repition of colour in order to create this as my final logo:

Album cover
For my album cover, I had to use this image:
This band name: Forever Delayed
And this album title: All is lost.
I played around with different ways I could use the image and decide to crop it like so:
And just to add to this, I added a level of black and white at a 38% opacity and slightly altered the brightness to make it a little more washed out.
Then I added the band name in kunghtrep font. I decided to use white as the typeface colour as it stood out from the background best:
Next, I added the album title in impact font. I made sure this was aligned with the band name and I decided to put this in red to add some colour to the cover:
After much deliberation of something not looking quite right, I decided that the bright red was just too bold for the other washed out colours so I toned it down slightly and went for a peach colour instead. I also experimented with the album title positioning and tried to see if it worked with the band name slightly overlapping it.
I decided to chose the design where the band name and title were not overlapping and I'm pleased with the end result. I feel that I have carefully thought about alignment, filters and fonts.

Poster
Initial images that I will be using for my poster:
Progress:
The images above show early progress in creating my poster. I decided to give famous Disney Pixar movie, Toy Story, a horror story twist. Firstly, I darkened the bright blue cloud backdrop to make it more fitting with the genre, then I found to suitable images of Woody and Jessie where they looked afraid and added the Toy Story logo with a drop shadow to make it stand out. I decided to add a shadow of a hand to the background to hint at what they might be looking at. It still looked too plain so I added the Disney Pixar logo, a lightning bolt to the Toy Story logo and a banner saying 'coming soon'.
I didn't think that this banner was exciting enough though so I decided to add a slogan to go with the film, which played on the classic 'Alien' tagline. I changed it to 'when you're a toy, no one can hear you scream' and thought this was much more suitable and exciting than merely 'coming soon'. Having thought of this as my finished piece, I still felt there was something missing therefore I decided that it needed a horror film title to accompany 'Toy Story'. I found a suitable font generating site which replicated a toy story font and chose 'Andy's Uprising' as my title however and added a drop shadow to make it stand off the page with the Toy Story logo. However, after receiving feedback, this didn't seem to sound 'scary' enough so I went back to my initial title ideas and brainstormed for a new movie title which ended up being 'Toys of Terror' which using alliteration, is catchy and memorable.

Poster Reseach
I have decided the movie I want to use is Toy Story, the posters are always so happy and I feel like I can use the characters well to create something different.

Poster Research
I did some initial research for posters after I decided I wanted to base it on Disney. One pattern that I noticed is that the themes are really always happy and upbeat so I feel like I want to completely reverse this convention and bring out a darker side to Disney. I want to take a movie and completely reverse its themes. I'm going to do some more research and decide what movie I want to use.

Looking at Fonts and Layouts
We were given a set phrase and information that we had to organise using alignment and symmetry.
I started by coming up with this design, I wanted to use the colour gold as the word 'Golden' seemed key however with a white background, it just didn't stand out, the second I converted the background to back, it looked instantly better. Then obvious choice for the second colour was white as nothing else matched the gold or stood out enough from the black. This is my finished result:
After looking at this, I thought I would work on another example that looks more at using alignment and grids and focusing on the technical aspects rather than looking at colour and aesthetics. Below you can see what the end result was. Using the grid mode on Photoshop, I was able to add my text and align it so that when the grid mode is removed, it looks as though there is an invisible line running down the left hand side.
